South Korea – Day 9 (photos) – Captain Troy Lightfield!

Still in Seoul on Thursday. We decided to visit one of two palaces in the area. We stopped by the first with the intention of watching the changing of the guard. A very cool ceremony consisting of full dressed guards in time appropriate dress. As we waiting for this show I moved closed to the [...]

South Korea – Day 8 (photos) – Off to Seoul and the War Museum

Today we bought our train tickets and headed to Seoul. It took us about 3 hours by train which beat the cheap alternative of riding a bus for over 7. Once there we got checked into our value motel and then headed for the South Korean War Museum. The Museum was full of war artifacts, [...]

South Korea Day 6 (photos) – A Day at the Beach

Today we decided to check out one of Busan’s main beaches,  Haeundae. It was really fun to see South Koreans at the beach. A majority of them don’t even appear to have swimsuits on! We even seen one lady in her tube with high heels on. Another man decided he didn’t need swim trunks at [...]

South Korea – Day 5 (photos) – Haedong Yonggung Temple

Today we headed to Haedong Yonggung Temple. This temple is unique in that most of the Korean temples are in the hills. Haedong Yonggung is right on the shore of the East Sea. The rock shores and waves crashing down on them make for the perfect backdrop for a beautiful temple. Enjoy the pictures!

South Korean – Day 4 – Something Smells Fishy!

Our first big day as tourists! We put on some serious miles. After hanging out in Guri’s Bar the night before we may have been a little slower than normal, but we stepped up our game and had a great day.
We took our first ride on the Korean subway, pretty much what one would expect [...]

South Korea – Day 3 (photos) – Eat, Drink and Be Merry

South Korea Trip Beer Count

Posted by admin On July - 22 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

As I sit here (experiencing jetlag Takayla says) enjoying (kind of) my Japanese beer I thought it would be cool to track the beers (and liqour) I have had so far on my trip. My memory isn’t what it used to be and I like to share so this will just be a simple list: Asahi - Super DRY – “The Beer for All Seasons” – ( I drank Sarah’s while she slept!) = 500ml* Sapporo – “This is the beer that’s great for good times at home or out on the town”... more

Not a lot of photos to share just yet. We spent the first day pretty much on the airplane, missed our connecting flight and ended up in a Tokyo hotel with bidets, sushi and beer vending machines…I can think of worse places to be! [View with PicLens] ... more

We’re off! Oh wait, 1 1/2 hour delay (couldn’t get mom out of Walmart)(no, really, our place was late) before we left Minneapolis and since we had 1 1/2 hour layover in Tokyo we were already concerned that we would not get to see Takayla and Jacob. And, we were right. So, here we sit in the Tokyo hotel, Hotel Nikko Narita, courtesy of North Western (Delta) Airlines! Which, aside from not seeing the kids it quite alright because we got a stamp in our passport books! We want to get maximum... more

Stone City’s General Store Pub – Reviewed

Posted by admin On July - 15 - 20092 COMMENTS

We had the pleasure of visiting Stone City, IA last weekend and it was suggested that we visit the Old General Store Pub for a meal. The Old General Store Pub is just across the bridge in town and has a nice little deck off the back that overlooks the Wapsipinicon River. The restaurant is built out of stone from the local quarry which really ads to the experience. We really couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day. It was nice and warm but not humid at all, perfect for sitting on their... more

This post may be a little premature but I wanted to set up a table of contents if you will for my upcoming trip to South Korea. I really hope to post while in country but we’ll see how much grief I get for trying that!
