The Blue Door Pub’s First Year Anniversary

Ok, so maybe it’s a plug but thought I’d share since this is one of our favorite burger joints:
This Friday, September 25th marks our 1 Year Anniversary! We’ve had an amazing time with an amazing group of neighbors and patrons and we want to express our thankfulness and gratitude.  Beginning Monday, September 21st through our [...]

South Korea – Day 9 (photos) – Captain Troy Lightfield!

Still in Seoul on Thursday. We decided to visit one of two palaces in the area. We stopped by the first with the intention of watching the changing of the guard. A very cool ceremony consisting of full dressed guards in time appropriate dress. As we waiting for this show I moved closed to the [...]

South Korea – Day 8 (photos) – Off to Seoul and the War Museum

Today we bought our train tickets and headed to Seoul. It took us about 3 hours by train which beat the cheap alternative of riding a bus for over 7. Once there we got checked into our value motel and then headed for the South Korean War Museum. The Museum was full of war artifacts, [...]

South Korea Day 6 (photos) – A Day at the Beach

Today we decided to check out one of Busan’s main beaches,  Haeundae. It was really fun to see South Koreans at the beach. A majority of them don’t even appear to have swimsuits on! We even seen one lady in her tube with high heels on. Another man decided he didn’t need swim trunks at [...]

South Korea – Day 5 (photos) – Haedong Yonggung Temple

Today we headed to Haedong Yonggung Temple. This temple is unique in that most of the Korean temples are in the hills. Haedong Yonggung is right on the shore of the East Sea. The rock shores and waves crashing down on them make for the perfect backdrop for a beautiful temple. Enjoy the pictures!

South Korean – Day 4 – Something Smells Fishy!

Our first big day as tourists! We put on some serious miles. After hanging out in Guri’s Bar the night before we may have been a little slower than normal, but we stepped up our game and had a great day.
We took our first ride on the Korean subway, pretty much what one would expect [...]

South Korea – Day 3 (photos) – Eat, Drink and Be Merry

Day 3 found us lost in a huge department store and eating the “wrong” thing! Pictures are from Sarah and I’s try at eating by ourselves at The Korean Style Restaurant, EVERYONE else in the entire restaurant had soup with a little chicken in it except us. We later found out that it is one [...]

South Korea Trip – Day 2, Afternoon (photos) – We’re here!

Finally made it to South Korean, most of these pictures are of the restaurant that we went to. It was a Korean BBQ style I guess you would say. We ordered Samgyeopsal and cooked it over hot coals. Lots of sides to add to a lettuce leaf and enjoy. The girls thought it was spices [...]

My Pancakes, World’s Best?

Posted by admin On June - 7 - 20091 COMMENT

Pancake perfection, my son was pleased! I love pancakes! I am not certain who invented pancakes, maybe my grandma but I am pretty sure that I perfected them! Where they rank in the world is probably up for debate but as far as my son is concerned they are the best in the world. I really do enjoy making pancakes for my family and friends.  I use an improved upon version that has been handed down from my grandfather’s mother which includes flour, baking powder, salt, eggs, milk, water, vanilla,... more

The Blue Door Pub Review

Posted by admin On June - 6 - 20091 COMMENT

The Blue Door Pub  is in St. Paul, MN, on Selby Avenue and is honestly one of our favorite place go for a burger. It’s a pretty small place and you’re almost always guaranteed a wait, but well worth it.  When I say small, I mean small, their bar maybe seats 5-6 people max and there probably aren’t more than 10 tables in the place. But that is definitely part of the attraction. It’s not your run of the mill restaurant where you get lost just trying to get back from the bathroom. The... more

Sakatah Lake State Park Review

Posted by admin On June - 6 - 20094 COMMENTS

Sakatah Lake State Park is located just about 1 hour south of the Twin Cities, far enough out to not hear the sound of traffic but close enough so come back the same day if you just weren’t cut out to be an outdoors man! Sakatah Lake State Park has 62 camp sites, 14 with electric, 2 group camps which accommodate 50 people, 5 bike in sites and one camper cabin. There are showers and restrooms throughout the camp loops and I would consider them pretty good for a campsite. The showering and restroom... more

Memorial Weekend in South Dakota

Posted by admin On June - 3 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Sarah, Waylon and I took a trip across sunny South Dakota over memorial weekend. This would be Sarah’s maiden voyage across the great state! Nine hours in a car, one way, with Troy. Yes, those of you that know me understand the ride this can be.  It went well though and no one got hurt. Once there, Sarah got to see the craft shop, also known as mom and dad’s house. My mom loves her crafts! We also visited my grandparents and unfortunately it was in the hospital where my grandpa was with... more
